A Vintage Lace Necklace

A new project has been mulling around in my head
for the last couple of weeks and so now
that it has become manifest
I thought you may
like to see this.

It is a vintage lace necklace, collar or bib -
depending on how you see it -
above it is displayed
against some deep burgundy silk velvet

and the many layers of vintage and new
lace pieces have been collaged

shaped onto some soft white felt

and embellished with several pieces of jewellery
including a vintage cameo, a satin ribbon rose,
a fashioned silk rose (also by me), some
vintage buttons, lace beaded applique and mother of pearl

and it ties with a length of soft cream sari ribbon.

You can find this in my Etsy shop as it is
now for sale!
I'm linking this post to What's It Wednesday at
Ivy and Elephants blog with Patti and Paula.

For those of you who knew JoAnna Pierotti
a most beautiful inspirational woman and
mixed media artist of Mosshill Studio
it is with much sadness I wish to inform you
that she has just passed away
after her journey with breast cancer.
We send our love and prayers to her family.

xox Suzy

  1. Oh Suzy, what terribly sad news. I have been following her for a few years and admired her greatly, both for her amazing works of art and also her strength in dealing with both her husband's and her own illness.
I wanted to say so many things about that gorgeous bib necklace you have created, but I'll leave that for another day now.

  2. I did not know her but I am sorry for your loss. As a breast cancer survivor, tales of those warriors who didn't win the battle are especially heartbreaking. Get your mammograms!

  3. Absolutely stunning Suzy! WOW, so many lovely details. I love how you create your flowers! I also loved the clutch you made. It is beautiful! I hope you know how much you inspire me to try new things.
I hope your summer is going nicely. I can imagine you are enjoying your garden so much. Your roses must be amazing this time of year. It won't be long now and I will be able to get a little dirt under my fingernails again, but right now the ground is frozen solid and it's hard to imagine it.
    much love to you...

  4. Condolences on the loss of such a special lady. We must find cures for cancer.
Your collaged lace necklace is lovely dear. With treasures to enjoy this is stunning.

  5. That is stunning. Your blog is making me want to go outside my comfort zone. I'm also very sorry for your loss.

  6. The neck piece is truly a piece of art.

  7. Oh my goodness dear Suzy, that is such sad news. I'm so sorry. I've been admiring her work greatly. Such an awful illness. Take care sweetie. Your necklace is gorgeous dear, so many beautiful layers. Sending you big hugs, xxx

  8. Beautiful, necklace and friend. May she rest in peace.

  9. THIS is a piece of art. So beautiful, Suzy.

Sadness hits the art community with JoAnna's passin. So sad.

  10. It is sad when any of us leave our world. I am so sorry. Your bib necklace is beautiful. xoxo

  11. Suzy, you never cease to amaze me with your beautiful creations!

  12. My dear Suzy, so good of you to tell about Joanna, here, I don`t know why I did not mentioned her on my last blogpost, but I have written to her, and about her, on both my timeline on fb and on her own timeline, so I think that is why,- I will never forget her . .
Your bib necklace is stunning and so beautiful created with your roses and all the old jewelry , what a fantastic idea, dear friend of mine.
Warmest hugs and kisses from Dorthe

  13. Suzy, this piece is exquisite. I was so saddened when I learned of Joanna's passing. Her art was so beautiful and inspirational. She will be missed.

  14. I'm sorry to say that I didn't know JoAnna and it's so sad how that horrible disease takes away so many loved ones. So sorry that it's taken another one. As for the collar - at first I thought it was a purse. How pretty this would be coupled with a simple black (or deep red!) dress.

  15. Thank you, Suzy, for posting about JoAnnA Pierotti. She was one of the first artists for me to take a class with in the fall of 2008. So I have known her seven years, and was always inspired by her lovely creativity. She will be deeply missed! And out of her pain and troubles with our Lord.
    Blessing to you!

  16. What a fabulous piece Suzy. The addition of the broach and bee are perfect. Such a statement you have made with this. I did not know Joanna but have seem so many friends who did mourn her passing deeply. Breast Cancer is not forgiving no matter who. xox

  17. Please don't use this masterpiece as a bib. I'd hate to see food dribbles all over it. Just gorgeous, Suzy. Everything you touch is perfect.

Sad sad news about JoAnna ...

  18. Dear Suzy, I have been following JoAnna for some time now as she too, was a source of great inspiration to me, both in artistic means as well as in her patience and strength to deal with this horrible desease. Thank you for letting us know about JoAnna's passing away.It kind of sets my heart at ease knowing that she will no longer suffer. Thank you dear friend for your warm and sympathetic heart!
    Hugs from Manu

  19. However, I do not want to miss this opportunity to tell you, how much I appreciate your wonderful art as it brings beauty and inspiration into this world!
