There was so much excitement, concentration, chatter
and intense activity in my home recently
when I conducted a workshop in
creating a fabric and lace book
after being approached
by three enthusiastic women all coming from a quilting
background.
There were Vivienne and Virginia
who travelled the furthest - about a 10 hour trip
and then there was Jesse from
Lace Age Girl blog
(please go and visit her beautiful blog and wonderful
photography there. Jesse has been creating with
fabrics, laces and papers now for some time)!
They brought oodles and oodles of fabrics and laces
to work on their projects - this being their first
attempt at creating a "book"
using them
and
they all took to their new creations
like to ducks to water
I had to prize them away from
creating their pages
for some nourishing tea, coffee and almond cake
refreshments
but by the time the evening meal was to be served
I think they were ready to take a real break
after which we continued on well into
the evening just to reach the
stage when they felt they had grasped their direction.
They all achieved fantastic results
with their own chosen themes, images and materials
creating pages within their covers including pockets.
Here they are after a well earned sleep
the following morning
posing with their achievements
as well as one very satisfied and proud teacher
sharing in their success!!!
Well done girls - I can't wait to see their finished books.
All's well that ends well and as
everybody knows the more we put in
the more we receive!
Wishing you all a wonderful Mother's Day
wherever you are!

Their books are fantastic! You are a great teacher. I look forward to you teaching the rest of us, long distance, how to make a fabric and lace book in your signature style. I would have loved to be with your friends but am thrilled to be able to view their creations. Thank you for sharing them. I keep thinking I can make my own fabric and lace book but it doesn't compare to the beauty of yours and now these books by the talented ladies in your home class. It must be the teacher that influenced them.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a fun time and the books are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to you.
How beautiful!
ReplyDeletejust my cup of tea :)

How awesome to have had a day with you learning how to create a wonderful lace book. If I did not live an ocean away I would have loved to have been there as well. Each one has created a very lovely start to a wonderful book. Of course they had a great teacher in you! Have a blessed and happy day!
ReplyDeleteSpending time with you in your element and learning some valuable lace lessons would be priceless! Happy Lace Class Dear...
ReplyDeleteHello
ReplyDeleteI would have liked to be there with you, to make so wonderful books! I'm sure that your "students" enjoyed their days with you!
Hugs and kisses
The fabric books are absolutely beautiful. You are a great inspiration. Thank you for sharing. Wish I could be there to learn, too.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhhhhh, Suzy ... what beautiful work you taught these women. They should be proud of their accomplishments.
ReplyDeleteIn my dreams, I am a seamstress. In reality? Oh, not so much - at all.
Happy stitching!

Oh my!! What an absolute treat for the participants to spend time in all that lacey goodness and with your instruction. They did beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteYou're a great instructor Suzy! All three books are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHi Suzy, Oh what a wonderful gathering of talented friends to design gorgeous creations. I love this and would have loved to be there. My post today shares something similar you might like to try as well or maybe you have already.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing and always the inspiration.
Have a great week.
Hugs, CM
Dearest Suzy, what beautiful boooks your "students" made,-they are truly wonderful all,and they look so occupied ,and thoughtful, about the process. I would have loved being there with you, being teached and have fun, tasting your almond cake and evening meal ,too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a satisfaction for both you, and them, that you all had a wonderful day together, and that they learned beautifully, from you, to create a lace book.
Sending you hugs.

Hope you had a lovely Mother's Day as well... beautiful creations... looks like they had a splendid time!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Suzy, you were a wonderful teacher and we had terrific fun watching each other's processes and learning from the decisions deliberated over.
ReplyDeleteSuzy's books and quilts were far more beautiful to see and touch in real life than mere photos...
Suzy's influence is certainly there in each of our pages - a tweak here, a suggested fabric or lace bit there. But I'm sure each of us feels more confident now to follow our own style to create our next pages.
Thanks Suzy for sharing your work and your creativity with the world :)
What a great opportunity. Great ideas.
ReplyDeleteDear Suzy, after the images you show, your workshop must have been wonderful and you a lovely teacher, these books are all so creatively made and amazing to look at.
ReplyDeleteHugs Anni
Gorgeous creations!!
ReplyDeleteThat's two of us teaching 'Chez Nous'!!😁
The smiles on those faces say it all! Quite obviously a delightful time was had by all - and such exquisite creations too. Green-eyed with envy here!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful layouts!! I love lace and vintage fabrics, my stash is getting low so time to hit the markets. These pieces are lovely and look amazing when put together, thanks for these images to inspire us...
