Some published artwork and journals!

Although my artwork these days has a focus of mixed media, vintage textiles papers, lace and fibres, I am still always drawn to the love of crazy quilting where I can incorporate the use of these.

This piece has been published in the 2019 Crazy Quilt Calendar available 1st October! It depicts the month of February with a romantic Valentine's Theme!

This image depicts some antique lace with cherubs on it!
Rather special I feel!
Herringbone pearl beaded stitching!

Vintage ginger colored lace fabric over
embroidered netting!

The old gold satin embroidered piece was from
a very old cushion!
and
the romantic French card image I printed
onto fabric for an off centre piece
complements
the beautiful laces
along with appliques of wedding pearls
and black printed flowers over white organza!

Some beautiful two toned silk ribbon
which I beaded with vintage black beads!

(Apologies for this deletion I was unable to correct it!!!!!!)

There really is something special and unique in stitching
with these old laces and work so
easily into these crazy quilted pieces!

If you would like to see some lovely lace quilts then visit Joelle at matinlumineux.blogspot.com
She is sharing some of my lace quilts also which was
such a co-incidence! Thank you dear friend very much!

A sweet vintage mini concertina book

Welcome friends to my blog today!
Well you all know how much a fan I am of making books.
This one was inspired by the wonderful Caterina Giglio.
She has an excellent You Tube video on how to create
 one of these mini concertinas!

Go check out her video here: https://caterinagiglio.blogspot.com/…/mini-fabric-concertin…

This little book requires simple sewing skills

and you can choose any theme, words, buttons, ribbons, laces, cards and findings that you so desire!

The beautiful metal heart and the holy card came
from Rhonda of A Little Bit French Shop - Thank you so much
Rhonda for these!

She really has a beautiful collection of kits at the moment
which would be ideal for creating one of these
little concertina books!

I used a lovely vintage cut lace linen tray cloth
for mine which I dyed with Parisian Essence
to achieve this color but you may
also use tea, coffee or natural dyes
for your little project!

My poem here I printed and backed with
a tea bag giving more depth of color!

Whatever theme you choose it needs to be
what is meaningful for you
or
it can be just a little fun piece

where you can use up your precious little
pieces of scrap laces and doilies!
I know it will be one I will make over again for sure!
♥♥♥
Thanks Cat for all of your wonderful inspiration!!!
♥♥♥♥♥

Now I'm going to link this post up to
and if you so desire
you can still link up any of your neutrals post
for another week before it becomes No. 48

Many thanks to all of my new followers and to anyone
else who loves and appreciates the items
I create! Enjoy!!!

Love and hugs,
Suzy xxx

Simply Neutrals No. 46 - Little Felted Lace and Silk journals

Dear friends
some of you may have already seen my post on fb
about these little felted lace journals.

So here on my blog you can get to see more close up images
of the artwork

where you can get a closer look at the layers,

the stitching used with my sewing machine,

some of the vintage laces used
and the silk tops over which I have
embellished with embroidery machine stitching.

The inside pages were left blank with botanical
stamping and washi tape
used to add interest!

These little journals are now all sold
but
I am in the process of creating a new four
which will be in my Etsy shop
sometime this week so keep checking!

I'm linking this post to Simply Neutrals Tuesday
which is open for the whole of the month of
July.

Wishing you all a wonderful week my friends!
and
Thank you all so very much for your continued support of my artwork!

Love and hugs, Suzy xxx

New Book - The Gift of Friendship

There are few things in life as precious as
"The Gift of Friendship"
and
in my desire to create a book around this
I decided to work with some of my eco-dyed paper
and create a little book honouring this theme!

The front cover incorporates the use
of some felted organza with layers of cotton
and silk

with pages of the natural dyeing from my
garden plant - Plectanthus,
some dyed silk (gifted from my lovely friend Jo Kinross
in New Zealand) along with a dyed doiley piece using
infusion pigment and tea with a pearl button.

The embroidered fabric sits opposite
a stamped piece of text over a tea bag!

More collaged pages with quotes upon layers of vintage
dress fabrics, dyed mohair with little
pieces of very old embroidered
silk so fragile and it came apart in my hands!

More stamped tea bags and another stitched tea bag
dyed with olive green infusion pigments.

"Pray - my cheek to your cheek"!

The leaf impressions are so soft and subtle
creating their own unorganized composition!

What could be more beautiful than creating with all of these
natural and, in many cases, neutral colours!

So much so that I'm linking up to
the linky party now which comes to us monthly
so don't miss this opportunity to share your
neutrals with all of us over at
Wen's blog this week!

Thank you all dear readers for the gift of your
friendship by coming to visit this blog
and saying hello and leaving a
comment when you feel
you can!
I'm so grateful to you all!
