As I was wanting to make Birthday Gifts and a Swap I came up with the idea of making my friends Diary Covers with a diary for 2011.
T This first cover was collaged in Indian cotton, shot silk, dupion silk, crushed velvet, printed organza with some Vintage sari braid which came from my friend Jo in New Zealand and for whom this gift was made. Jo is a wonderful dyer with natural fibres and plants, and is currently running a week's workshop with India Flint in New Zealand.
This second cover for Andrea who lives at Coff's Harbour in Northern News South Wales, Australia
was made from some silk and satin strips which I ripped and roughly sewed together
and which I attached to some grape coloured velvet and then collaged with some
and the final Diary Cover I made for my friend, Judy, at
Judysfabrications.blogspot.com
as part of a swap.
I used some homespun cotton here which I dyed
then collaged several layers of cottons and silks with a very old piece of lace dyed in turquoise on top of which I added these blue motifs.
Oh Yes!
and
finally added some gold bugle and other beads
to set off the beautiful lacework
and
VOILA!
I am full of good intentions, but not sure how they will pan out!
ReplyDeleteSuch a marvelous idea ! They look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI am the "Judy" who received one of these gorgeous Diary Covers. Thanks Suzy.Your parcels are eagerly awaited, and I'm never disappointed!

ReplyDeleteYes I must admit I am a bit of a luscious and rich colour fabric freak! Glad you so enjoy looking at these and thanks for lovely comments -
ReplyDeletePenny, Ati, Judy and Ju.
Love these, & the different color approach for Judy's. Do you have a link for Jo & Andrea? I'm really enjoying India Flint's eco color.
ReplyDeleteEmma - Andrea doesn't have a blog and Jo's is in the making but she is affiliated with a blog called ecocolourodyssey.blogspot.com in Nelson, N.Z. It is of a small group which comes together there for eco dyeing and for exhibiting in galleries such as Fibre Forum.
ReplyDeleteThanks for kind comment!
My daughter has challenged me to make one of the journals like you make. So I will try to make one for her birthday. Not sure I can find so many great fabrics and trims like yours, but I will start looking.
ReplyDeleteWonderfull idea ! These diary covers are very beautifull, I like all. Yours friends will be spoil .
ReplyDeleteThese are stunning Suzy!!! All these gals are going to adore them.
ReplyDeleteI love my new Camera! It has taken some getting used to, but we are getting along real well now. I need to find time to get out and do more practicing, but the light hasn't been good here. Cloudy and snowy. I think this Canon was a good choice for me.
All lush, but I think my favourite is the middle one.
ReplyDeleteFab Suzy, you obviously made them with each friend in mind. Lovely. xox Corrine
